Abstract
There are many changes occurred in this period, such as: body grows fast, second sex characteristics are appeared, emotional change, and menarche (Sarwono, 1999). The objective of this research is to know the relationship of knowledge level and attitude towards menarche of SMP students in SMP Negeri Gamping Sleman Yogyakarta academic year 2009. This research uses non experimental observational correlation research by using cross sectional timing approach. The research subject is students who are in 12-15 years old in SMP Negeri Gamping Sleman Yogyakarta by using purposive sampling (getting sample by taking certain consideration) as 46 students. Analysis technique used to know the relationship uses statistics test Kendall Tau. The research was done on July 2009. The result of this research shows that 26 students (56,5%) have medium level of knowledge, and 35 students (76,1%) have medium attitude, while those who have medium level of knowledge and medium attitude are 15 students (32,61%), and those who have good level of knowledge and good attitude are 11 students (23,91%). The conclusion of the research result is there is any significant relationship between knowledge level and attitude towards menarche shown by τ value is 0,492 in significant rate of 0,05. Therefore the hypothesis formulated is accepted. Based on the result, it is suggested to mid wife profession to improve counseling for teenager not getting menarche in education institution.
