HUBUNGAN POLA ASUH ORANG TUA DENGAN TINGKAT KEMANDIRIAN PEMENUHAN KEBUTUHAN ADL ( ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING) PADA ANAK TUNAGRAHITA RINGAN DI SLB N PEMBINA YOGYAKARTA (+NASKAH PUBLIKASI)

Background: Children with mental disability is one of the extraordinary children disorder, statement it makes enviroment problems (Efendi, 2008). Children who suffer mental disability in motoric limited capabilities, influence in ADL needed (Cahyaningrum, 2004 in Yuniara, 2009), so these children dont have any ability to be independent (Wenar & Kerig, 2000). The independence of children with mental disability is influenced by parents. Their role should create good relation with the children. Beside, they give them physical and safety need to be harmonimous family (Supriyapto in Yuniara 2001). Purposes: The purposes of this study were to find out the relation parenting style and independence level in ADL need fulfilment on children with mental disabilities in SLB pembina Jogjakarta. Method: This study was a survey analitical study with cross-sectional design. Study sample and population were the parents of children with mental disability (N = 48). To understand the relation between parenting style and level of independence in ADL fulfilment used coefficent contingency with significance level p < 0,05. Results: Fourty six subjects were interviewed in this study. Prevalence of democratic parenting was found as much as 87%, 2.2% of authoritarian parenting and 10.9% of permissive parenting. Child's independence in ADL fulfilment is in a high criteria = 54.3%, moderate = 43.5% and low = 2.2%. There was significant relation between parenting style and level of independence ADL fulfilment in children with mental disability (p = 0,024). Conclusion: The present study found that the almost all parents used democratic parenting. Independence level in ADL fulfilment is higher. There was significant relation between parenting style and independence level in ADL fulfilment.
